CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Phoenix guard Collin Gillespie set a new Suns single-season record for made three-pointers on Thursday, connecting for his 227th long-range shot during the second quarter of a 127-107 loss to the Charlotte Hornets.
Gillespie’s wing jumper moved him past Quentin Richardson’s 2004-05 mark of 226 threes. The milestone came on April 2, 2026, but the fourth-year pro finished with just six points, shooting 2-for-7 from beyond the arc as Phoenix dropped its sixth road game in its last seven outings.
“It’s a great accomplishment, and I’m extremely grateful,” Gillespie said afterward. “But at the end of the day, it doesn’t mean much with the loss.”
The Suns guard added that both he and the team must “figure it out on the fly” as they look to regain form with several players working their way back from injuries.
Charlotte also celebrated a long-range milestone. Rookie Kon Knueppel needed four three-pointers to break the Hornets’ single-season record and reached the mark late in the fourth quarter. The 20-year-old’s 261st three, set up by an assist from Grant Williams, surpassed Kemba Walker’s 2018-19 total of 260.
The Hornets’ victory halted Phoenix’s comeback attempts and provided a historic night for shooters on both teams.
