The Oklahoma City Thunder announced that first-round pick Thomas Sorber will miss the entire 2025-26 season after tearing the ACL in his right knee during an offseason workout on Thursday.

Sorber, selected No. 15 overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days. The team said the 19-year-old center will spend his rookie year in rehabilitation and is expected to return for the 2026-27 campaign.

Before entering the draft, the 6-foot-9 big man averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 blocks in his lone college season, which was cut short by a left foot injury.

Sorber is the second consecutive Thunder lottery selection to lose his first NBA season to an ACL injury; last year’s No. 12 pick, Nikola Topic, also sat out after sustaining a similar setback. Oklahoma City had envisioned Sorber joining a frontcourt rotation that includes Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams, but those plans are now on hold.

The Thunder indicated they have sufficient depth to absorb the loss for now, yet Sorber’s injury postpones his debut in one of the league’s most promising young lineups.
