Guard Cam Thomas accepted the Brooklyn Nets’ one-year qualifying offer worth just under $6 million, keeping the 22-year-old in Brooklyn for the 2024-25 season.

Because the deal is a qualifying offer, Thomas holds an implicit no-trade clause; the Nets cannot move him without his consent. League sources told the New York Post that the former first-round pick drew limited interest in restricted free agency, and Brooklyn showed no desire to bid against itself. While Thomas is well regarded inside the organization, general manager Sean Marks targeted additional play-making guards on draft night, an indication that Thomas’ offensive usage could change.

Salary-cap outlook

Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan projects Brooklyn to sit about $7 million below the 2025-26 salary floor if forward Ziaire Williams re-signs on the same terms center Day’Ron Sharpe just received. Sharpe’s new contract is two years, $12.5 million, with a team option on the second season. Remaining below the floor would give the Nets flexibility to absorb contracts in another salary-dump trade.

Suns invite Alex Schumacher

The Phoenix Suns reached a training-camp agreement with guard Alex Schumacher, according to Paul Garcia of The Spot Up Shot. Schumacher averaged 8.2 points and 3.1 assists in the G League last year. His Exhibit 10 contract is expected to route him back to the Valley Suns, the club’s affiliate, where he can earn a bonus of up to $85,300.

Mason Jones heads to Perth

Free-agent guard Mason Jones, 27, is finalizing a deal with the Perth Wildcats of Australia’s NBL, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported. Jones ended last season on a two-way contract with the Sacramento Kings and led the Stockton Kings to a G League championship, winning Finals MVP honors. The Arkansas product has appeared in 51 NBA games with Houston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles (Lakers) and Sacramento. Perth finished 18-11 last season and reached the league semifinals.
