LOS ANGELES — With the regular season winding down, LeBron James says the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent success is rooted in how much the roster enjoys playing — and spending time — together.

Before Tuesday’s matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Lakers stand 14-2 since the calendar turned to March. The stretch has featured standout performances from Luka Doncic and a redefined role for James, who missed the first three games of the month and returned as the team’s third scoring option behind Doncic and Austin Reaves.

“We’re in a good place right now,” James said after recording a 21-point triple-double in Monday night’s win over the Washington Wizards, a game Doncic sat out. “The chemistry is high. Everyone loves being around each other. We love playing for one another … It’s a good tight-knit group, and we’ve got to carry that for the rest of the regular season. The postseason is a whole new season.”

Four Lakers scored at least 19 points against Washington, underscoring the team effort James referenced. “We had a professional approach,” he added. “Doesn’t matter who we’re playing, we’re still trying to build habits for the postseason.”

At 41, James once again became the oldest player in NBA history to notch a triple-double. “It’s pretty cool to know that I’m at this point in my career and still able to do those things,” he said. “It’s super humbling, and those are the results of continuing to put the work in.”

The veteran forward’s outlook has been mirrored off the court as well. When the Lakers visited Indianapolis earlier in the month, WNBA star Caitlin Clark grabbed headlines by photographing James from courtside and later sharing the images on social media, noting she smiled when the two made eye contact.

Los Angeles now turns its attention to the Cavaliers, looking to extend a March run built on what James calls “love” for the game — and for one another.
