The Philadelphia 76ers finally saw their core pieces click on Saturday night, defeating the Charlotte Hornets and tightening the Eastern Conference race in the process.

Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey accounted for 81 points in the victory, delivering the balance and firepower the organization has envisioned since assembling the trio. Injuries and uneven play have often disrupted that plan, but head coach Nick Nurse had all three stars available and productive against Charlotte.

The result carried extra weight. By topping the Hornets, Philadelphia secured an important head-to-head tiebreaker, a potentially decisive edge in a conference where every win affects postseason seeding.

“Top-end talent is what secures postseason wins, and the 76ers have arguably the most top-end talent in the Eastern Conference,” wrote Tony Jones of The Athletic. “It doesn’t make them a favorite, but if they are healthy, it does make them a tough and dangerous team.”

While the current campaign has gone smoother than last season’s tumultuous run, the club continues to wrestle with health setbacks and stretches of inconsistency. Saturday’s performance, however, offered a glimpse of what Philadelphia believes it can be when its marquee players share the floor.

The Sixers remain in a tight battle for playoff positioning, but the decisive showing against Charlotte reinforced the franchise’s confidence that, when healthy, its roster can pose problems for any opponent in the East.
