The Memphis Grizzlies announced today that guard/forward Jaylen Wells will undergo surgery to repair a tendon avulsion fracture in his right big toe. The club did not provide a recovery timetable but indicated Wells will likely be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Wells, 23, appeared in 69 games—all starts—before the injury forced him to miss the team’s last three contests. He averaged 12.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 26.4 minutes per game while shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from three-point range and 78.4 percent at the free-throw line.

Memphis was officially eliminated from playoff contention on Wednesday, and Wells becomes the fifth Grizzlies player this season to require season-ending surgery, according to Michael Wallace of Grind City Media. The team has shifted its focus toward the upcoming draft.
