Kristaps Porzingis has only just arrived in San Francisco, yet the 30-year-old center is already considering an extended future with the Golden State Warriors, NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole reported.
Porzingis, obtained from the Atlanta Hawks in the trade that sent Jonathan Kuminga east, will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Early conversations around the organization indicate he is willing to negotiate a new deal once the market opens, Poole noted.
The Latvian big man has not shared the court with injured star Stephen Curry, but the idea of partnering with the two-time MVP appears to be a major draw. “He changed the game,” Porzingis said about Curry. “Being on the same team is pretty cool.”
In limited action since the trade, Porzingis is averaging 17.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. Golden State currently hovers near the Western Conference play-in positions, leaving questions about roster construction, health and salary structure still unresolved.
Free agency is several months away, yet the early signs suggest mutual interest in keeping Porzingis in a Warriors uniform beyond this season.
