Guard Luka Doncic said he is puzzled by his position in the NBA’s Most Valuable Player chase, telling reporters he does not understand why his ranking drops even as his production rises.
“The better I play the more I go down in rankings, so I don’t know what more I can do,” the Los Angeles Lakers star remarked as the regular season enters its final stretch.
Doncic is in the midst of another strong run, delivering high statistical output while helping the Lakers climb the Western Conference standings. Despite those contributions, he noted that national recognition has not always followed.
The MVP field remains crowded. Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has stayed in contention since opening night, and Denver’s Nikola Jokić continues to post standout numbers. Several other players are also drawing consideration.
With voting discussions intensifying, Doncic’s comments add another layer to a debate that typically gains steam late in the season. For now, he believes his results on the floor should be reflected more favorably in the race.
