Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been handed a one-game suspension after collecting his 16th technical foul of the season, the NBA announced Saturday.
The penalty will keep Doncic out of Monday’s matchup with the Washington Wizards. Under league rules, a player is automatically suspended after receiving 16 technical fouls in a regular season.
Incident occurred in win over Nets
The latest technical was assessed with 5:12 remaining in the third quarter of Friday’s victory against the Brooklyn Nets. Following an offensive foul called on Doncic, he and Nets forward Ziaire Williams exchanged shoves. Video review showed Doncic pushing Williams, who responded by swiping at Doncic’s face. Crew chief Sean Wright issued double technicals to both players.
Previous tech rescinded
Doncic had briefly reached the 16-tech threshold last weekend after a verbal exchange with Orlando Magic center Goga Bitadze. The league later rescinded that technical following a Lakers appeal, delaying the automatic suspension until Friday’s infraction.
Financial impact and recent performance
The suspension will cost the four-time All-Star 1/174th of his 2025-26 salary, an estimated $264,000. The decision interrupts a dominant stretch in which Doncic is averaging 39.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 2.5 steals over his past 12 games.
