Golden State forward Draymond Green rejected the idea that the club’s season is “cursed,” pointing instead to several encouraging developments, most notably the rise of rookie forward Gui Santos.
Santos earns multi-year deal
Santos, 21, recently secured a three-year, $15 million extension and has established himself in head coach Steve Kerr’s rotation. Speaking with ClutchPoints, the São Paulo native described his journey from Brazil to the NBA and the ongoing adjustment to life in the United States.
Williams sparks bench
Two-way guard Nate Williams has also delivered a lift since arriving after the All-Star break. The 25-year-old scored 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting in a victory over Atlanta, prompting Kerr to call him “a really good young guy” with strong touch and athleticism, according to The Athletic.
Because of two-way contract limits, Williams may be active for only 16 games; he is already close to that cap, resulting in recent inactive listings.
Curry update expected Friday
The team plans to release its next formal update on Stephen Curry on Friday. The star guard has been out since Jan. 30 with a knee injury and has been working primarily with director of performance Rick Celebrini rather than taking part in full on-court sessions, The Athletic reported.
Curry’s availability remains a pivotal variable as Golden State enters the season’s final stretch.
