Celtics to Bring Back Charles Bassey on Second 10-Day Deal

The Boston Celtics plan to re-sign center Charles Bassey to a second 10-day contract on Wednesday, veteran NBA reporter Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe revealed on social media.

Bassey’s previous 10-day agreement expired overnight, reducing Boston’s roster to 13 standard contracts. Because the club has already used the league-allowed 28 days below the 14-player minimum, another signing was required before Thursday to avoid violating NBA rules.

Selected 53rd overall in the 2021 draft, the 6-foot-11 big man appeared in 113 games for the 76ers and Spurs from 2021-25, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes.

This season, Bassey has moved between the NBA and the G League. He landed a hardship 10-day with Memphis in October, followed by two 10-day contracts with Philadelphia in January and February. The current stint in Boston provides frontcourt depth while center Nikola Vucevic works back from a finger injury.

The 25-year-old has seen action in five NBA contests this year, logging four total minutes, including two brief appearances for the Celtics last week against Golden State and Minnesota. In 20 G League outings with the Santa Cruz Warriors and Delaware Blue Coats, he is averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks while shooting 60.6 percent from the field and 42.6 percent from three.

The new 10-day pact runs through April 3 and will cost Boston $131,970 against the salary cap, leaving the club $161,084 below the luxury-tax threshold. After April 4, a rest-of-season minimum deal for a 14th player would add $118,773 to the cap, giving the Celtics enough room to add a 15th man late in the season without entering tax territory.
