The Brooklyn Nets have reached an agreement with guard Malachi Smith on a second 10-day contract, according to league sources cited by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Smith’s initial 10-day deal expired Monday night, yet Brooklyn held its roster at 14 players, allowing the 26-year-old to reclaim the open spot on the 15-man chart without another transaction.
Productive first stint
During his first six NBA appearances, the former Gonzaga standout averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 19.5 minutes. He shot 50 percent from the field (15-for-30) and 50 percent from three-point range (5-for-10).
Smith debuted with the Nets on March 14 in Philadelphia after logging G League time with Long Island, Rip City Remix, Wisconsin Herd and Memphis Hustle since going undrafted in 2023.
Contract details
If the agreement is finalized Wednesday, the new 10-day pact will span Brooklyn’s next five games and run through Friday, April 3. The contract is worth $73,153, boosting Smith’s season earnings to $188,956 when combined with his first 10-day deal and the $42,650 partially guaranteed he received on a training-camp contract last fall.
Under NBA rules, a player cannot sign more than two 10-day contracts with the same franchise in a single season. Any decision to keep Smith beyond this period would require a rest-of-season or multiyear agreement.
