Slovenia will face Italy in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Round of 16 after rallying from an 0-2 start to secure a knockout-stage berth behind standout performances from Luka Doncic.
The elimination game is set for Sunday, Sept. 7, at 8:30 a.m. PT in Latvia. It will be available through FIBA’s Courtside 1891 platform and DAZN, both requiring paid subscriptions.
Slovenia turns the corner
After dropping opening Group D contests to Poland and France, Slovenia responded with consecutive wins over Belgium, Iceland and Israel. Doncic leads the tournament in scoring and steals and sits second in assists. His triple-double against Belgium was only the fifth recorded in EuroBasket history.
Italy’s path to the knockout stage
Italy posted a 4-1 record in group play, falling to Greece while defeating Georgia, Bosnia, Spain and Cyprus. Miami Heat forward Simone Fontecchio has paced the Italian roster, which also features Danilo Gallinari, Nicolo Melli, Mouhamet Diouf and Saliou Niang.
Bracket outlook
The winner of Slovenia-Italy will move on to meet the winner of Germany-Portugal in the quarterfinals on Sept. 9–10. Semifinals are scheduled for Sept. 12, with the third-place game and championship set for Sept. 14.
Slovenia head coach Aleksander Sekulic commended Doncic’s approach after the guard’s historic showing against Belgium, noting the star’s focus “from the first to last minute.”
