MIAMI — Luka Doncic poured in a season-high 60 points on Thursday night, guiding the Los Angeles Lakers past the Miami Heat, 134-126, at Kaseya Center. The victory stretched Los Angeles’ winning streak to eight games and moved the club to 45-25.
The matchup closed the back end of a road back-to-back for the Lakers, who did not arrive in Miami until about 5 a.m. Despite the quick turnaround, head coach Darvin Ham had all key players available.
Slow start, strong finish
Miami opened with a 9-0 burst and led 42-29 after one quarter as Los Angeles struggled to match the Heat’s energy. Marcus Smart finally put the Lakers on the board with two free throws before Doncic found his rhythm with consecutive three-pointers.
LeBron James hit his first five shots of the night to trim the deficit in the second period, but Bam Adebayo’s inside presence kept the Heat in front. Doncic keyed a late surge to pull the Lakers within 65-59 at halftime.
Record-setting third quarter
Doncic opened the second half with a steal and two straight threes, giving him 226 made threes this season and breaking D’Angelo Russell’s single-season franchise record. Los Angeles erupted for a 31-12 run, including 12 unanswered points, and carried a 97-88 edge into the fourth quarter. Doncic scored 19 in the period.
Closing time
Adebayo attacked early in the final quarter to keep Miami close, but once Doncic returned to the floor, the Lakers steadied. The All-NBA guard repeatedly reached the free-throw line alongside Austin Reaves, while James added timely playmaking.
Doncic and James sealed the outcome in the closing minutes. Doncic finished with 60 points, and James recorded a triple-double of 19 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. The Heat were led by Adebayo, who controlled the paint but could not overcome Los Angeles’ second-half surge.
