Brooklyn, NY — The Brooklyn Nets have confirmed two roster moves, awarding forward E.J. Liddell a two-way contract and finalizing a two-year, $12 million agreement with center Day’Ron Sharpe.
Nets lock in Liddell and Sharpe
Liddell, 24, entered the league as the 41st pick in the 2022 draft out of Ohio State but suffered an ACL tear during that summer’s Las Vegas showcase. He has totaled just 76 NBA minutes with the Pelicans and Bulls, yet averaged 15.7 points and 6.6 rebounds last season for the Windy City Bulls in the G League. He joins guard Tyson Etienne as the Nets’ second two-way player, leaving one slot open.
Sharpe’s new contract had been anticipated since June, but Brooklyn delayed the announcement while managing salary-cap flexibility. The club still holds more than $10 million in space, preserving the ability to make additional moves.
Hawks round out preseason roster
The Atlanta Hawks have invited forward Javan Johnson and guard Dwight Murray Jr. to training camp on expected Exhibit 10 contracts. Johnson, 26, spent most of last season with the G League’s Santa Cruz Warriors, where he posted 13.8 points per game and hit 37 percent of his three-point attempts.
Murray, 24, a Georgia native, averaged 9.0 points and 5.1 assists for the College Park Skyhawks in 2023-24. Both players could return to College Park if they do not secure spots on Atlanta’s regular-season roster.
Cavaliers take camp back to Florida
The Cleveland Cavaliers will hold training camp at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, for the second consecutive year from Sept. 30 through Oct. 5. President of basketball operations Koby Altman credited last year’s trip for team bonding and said the organization is eager to repeat the experience along Florida’s Gulf Coast.
