San Francisco — Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Sunday he is confident Stephen Curry will suit up again before the regular season ends, even though the All-Star guard has been idle since January 30 with a knee injury.
“We expect him back,” Kerr told NBC’s Bob Costas during the national telecast of Golden State’s game against New York. “He’s trending in the right direction. It’s been a tricky injury. I think he’ll be back for sure. We just don’t know if it’s going to be a week or two or whatever. It’s a day-to-day process.”
Curry continues individual workouts and is scheduled for another medical evaluation on March 21, ensuring he will miss at least the club’s next three contests.
Curry Has No Plans to Retire
Despite an injury-filled season, the two-time MVP told The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II he is not weighing retirement. “When I’m out there on the court right now, I still get lost in the fun,” Curry said. “All the work is worth it because I get to go out there and hoop at the highest level… I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.”
Kerr Again Pushes for 72-Game Schedule
Speaking over the weekend, Kerr reiterated his long-held belief that the NBA should trim 10 games from its 82-game slate. “I’m well aware fewer games would mean less revenue, which means everybody takes a pay cut, and I’m willing to stick my neck out and say I’m all for that,” he told reporters. “I just want to make sure we give our fans the very, very best product we can.”
Yurtseven Adjusting to NBA Pace
Newly signed center Omer Yurtseven, on a 10-day contract, said the NBA’s wider lane and defensive three-second rule create a “much more free-flowing” game than he experienced in Europe. The 7-footer went scoreless but grabbed four rebounds in 13 minutes during the three-point loss to the Knicks.
Coach Regrets Sideline Outburst
Kerr acknowledged he lost his composure when he chastised rookie Will Richard for a second-quarter turnover on Sunday. “I kind of regret losing my composure a little bit there,” Kerr said. “It’s my job to keep the guys going, especially when we’re without so many players.”
