P.J. Washington will remain with the Dallas Mavericks through the 2029-30 season after agreeing to a four-year, $90 million contract extension, agent Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management told ESPN on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old forward still has one year and $14.1 million left on his current deal. Under NBA rules, the new agreement makes him ineligible to be traded during the 2025-26 season.
Washington’s extension caps an offseason in which Dallas also secured new multiyear deals with All-Star guard Kyrie Irving and center Daniel Gafford, locking up every key player eligible for a contract this summer.
Selected 12th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2019 draft, Washington spent his first four and a half seasons with Charlotte before being acquired by Dallas at the 2024 trade deadline. He started all 22 postseason games as the Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals that year.
In 2024-25, Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals while shooting 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from three-point range. According to ESPN Research, he was one of only eight players to record at least one steal and one block per game while appearing in 50 or more contests. His 14 double-doubles last season surpassed the 10 he collected over the previous three years combined.
Washington is set to enter his seventh NBA season in October. He headlines a frontcourt that also features Anthony Davis, rookie Cooper Flagg, Dereck Lively II and Gafford.
