Los Angeles Lakers forward Adou Thiero is turning heads in the NBA G League, boosting his chances of joining the varsity rotation after a string of eye-catching performances for the South Bay Lakers.
The 36th overall selection in the 2025 draft missed summer league and the opening stretch of the season while recovering from knee surgery, then sat out additional time with a sprained MCL. Once healthy, the rookie found the Lakers’ NBA lineup already stacked, limiting his minutes with the parent club.
In eight G League outings, Thiero is averaging 14.6 points on 63.2% shooting, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals in just over 20 minutes per game. His athleticism made national social-media rounds this week after he caught a hit-ahead pass, took one dribble from beyond the three-point arc and delivered a poster dunk over an Iowa Wolves defender—an effort that had the South Bay bench leaping and drew a repost from LeBron James on Instagram.
Head coach JJ Redick said the organization remains committed to developing the 6-foot-8 forward. “He’s an NBA athlete, and we’re trying to develop him into an NBA player,” Redick noted.
For now, most of that development continues in El Segundo, but Thiero’s recent flashes suggest the Lakers may soon need to clear a path for him at Crypto.com Arena.
