The Miami Heat kept the jokes flowing Thursday night after beating the visiting Milwaukee Bucks 112-105, even though Bam Adebayo finished with “only” 21 points two days after his historic 83-point outburst.
Milwaukee’s social media team tried to needle Miami by posting the final score with the caption, “Bam did not score 83 points.” The Heat quickly replied, “Didn’t need to… clearly,” underscoring a win that completed a 2-1 season series against the Bucks.
Adebayo shot 8-for-20 and grabbed enough attention to open space for rookie guard Pelle Larsson, who led Miami with 28 points. The Heat seized control with a strong first quarter and never trailed in the second half, sending Milwaukee to its third consecutive defeat.
According to ESPN Research, Adebayo’s 21 points are the fewest ever scored by an NBA player in the game immediately following a 75-point performance. Even so, the center extended his streak of 20-point games to eight, matching the second-longest run of his career.
Before the matchup, head coach Erik Spoelstra defended the decision to leave Adebayo on the floor Tuesday as he chased the second-highest single-game point total in league history. “I apologize to absolutely no one. Period,” Spoelstra said. Miami’s online response Thursday suggested the organization’s stance has not changed.
The loss leaves the Bucks six games back of the Eastern Conference’s final play-in position as of Thursday night, making a postseason rematch with Miami unlikely.
