Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will remain out for a minimum of 10 additional days as he continues to recover from patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported Wednesday.
The two-time MVP has already missed 15 straight games and is expected to be sidelined for at least five more contests. Curry, who turns 38 on Saturday, has resumed on-court activity and plans to increase the intensity of his workouts in the coming days, according to league sources.
The Warriors released a statement confirming the updated timeline.
Golden State is 23-16 when Curry plays this season and 9-17 in his absence. The club enters Wednesday at 32-33, holding the No. 9 seed in the Western Conference.
The team dropped consecutive games Monday in Utah and Tuesday at Chase Center against Chicago. “Both very winnable,” head coach Steve Kerr said after the 130-124 overtime loss to the Bulls. “We had the lead late tonight—one we should have had—but this is how the NBA is when you’re banged up. Games are tight; you’ve got to finish, and we didn’t finish either night.”
Several Warriors were unavailable Tuesday, including DeAnthony Melton, who tweaked his adductor after being limited Monday as part of a planned back-to-back appearance. Center Kristaps Porzingis made his third outing with Golden State, posting 17 points, four rebounds and four blocks in 20 minutes. He acknowledged that his conditioning is not yet at peak level but expects improvement with consistent floor time.
Porzingis also addressed Curry’s absence. “I want to play with Steph—who doesn’t?” he said postgame. “I know he’s doing everything he can to be back with us as soon as possible, and it’s a completely different team when he’s out there. Hopefully, I get that chance soon.”
