MIAMI — Bam Adebayo became just the second player to score 10,000 points for the Miami Heat, hitting the milestone during Sunday night’s 121-110 victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons.
The 28-year-old center entered the game needing 23 points and finished with 24. Dwyane Wade, who recorded 21,556 points with Miami, is the only other member of the franchise’s 10K club.
“Just shows the growth of my game,” Adebayo said. “Being in the history books behind somebody like D-Wade, it’s a great accomplishment.”
Adebayo, the Heat’s captain, is on pace to average at least 18 points per game for a sixth consecutive season. He connected on four three-pointers against Detroit, pushing his season total to 94—matching the combined number he made over the previous two seasons.
The ninth-year veteran also sits second on Miami’s all-time rebounding list behind Udonis Haslem. Adebayo needs 207 rebounds over the final 17 games to overtake Haslem, a target he has publicly acknowledged chasing.
“He came in not known necessarily as a scorer,” head coach Erik Spoelstra said. “He’s worked and willed himself into that. For this particular team, his scoring is really important.”
