DENVER — Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray exited Friday night’s matchup with the New York Knicks after spraining his left ankle late in the second quarter.
The incident occurred with 1:05 remaining before halftime when Knicks forward OG Anunoby drove into the lane and made contact with Murray. While back-pedaling, the Nuggets’ All-Star stepped on the right foot of teammate Nikola Jokić, immediately collapsing to the floor and clutching his ankle.
Murray was helped to the locker room by teammate Jonas Valančiūnas, grimacing as he left the court. The Nuggets provided no immediate update on the severity of the injury.
During the stoppage, Knicks head coach Mike Brown successfully challenged the initial charging call against Anunoby. The ruling was overturned to a blocking foul on Murray, and Anunoby converted both free throws to extend New York’s lead to 65-42 at halftime.
This season marks Murray’s first All-Star selection in his nine-year NBA career. His injury came on the same night Denver’s original starting lineup appeared together for the first time since Nov. 12, with Aaron Gordon returning from a hamstring issue and Cam Johnson back from a right ankle sprain.
