Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will remain sidelined for a minimum of one additional week because of an oblique injury, the team confirmed.
The Sixers did not specify the exact date of Embiid’s next evaluation, noting only that his status will be revisited after the seven-day period. The injury has already kept the reigning MVP out of recent action, and the club will continue to monitor his progress before clearing him for a return.
Embiid, 29, is averaging more than 30 points per game this season and is central to Philadelphia’s postseason ambitions. Without him, head coach Nick Nurse is expected to rely heavily on forwards Tobias Harris and Paul Reed in the frontcourt rotation.
The 76ers enter the upcoming stretch aiming to maintain their position in the Eastern Conference standings while awaiting their star center’s recovery.
