LeBron James added another milestone to his résumé on 5 March 2026, moving past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leader in field goals made.
The Los Angeles Lakers star secured the record in the second half of Thursday night’s game, finishing a drive to the basket that pushed him one field goal ahead of Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing total. Play briefly stopped as teammates, coaches and fans acknowledged the achievement.
Abdul-Jabbar had held the mark since his retirement in 1989. James, now in his 23rd NBA season, already sits atop the league’s career scoring list and continues to climb other statistical categories.
“It’s always humbling to be mentioned with Kareem,” James said in a courtside interview shown on the arena video board. “I grew up studying the greats, and to be part of that conversation is an honor.”
The basket that broke the record was James’s 15,838th made field goal, eclipsing Abdul-Jabbar’s career total of 15,837. James finished the night with 32 points, helping the Lakers to a 118-107 victory.
Los Angeles returns to action on Sunday against Phoenix, where James will continue adding to a record that now belongs solely to him.
