The Phoenix Suns announced Thursday that starting center Mark Williams has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in the third metatarsal of his left foot and will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks.
The club did not specify when the injury occurred. Williams logged 22 minutes during Tuesday’s victory over the Sacramento Kings before the issue was discovered.
The 24-year-old had largely avoided the health setbacks that limited him earlier in his career. After appearing in just 106 games across three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets, he has already played a career-high 56 contests for Phoenix this year.
Selected 15th overall out of Duke in the 2022 NBA Draft, Williams is averaging 11.6 points and 8.1 rebounds while shooting 63.3 percent from the field in 23.6 minutes per game.
Phoenix entered Thursday with a 35-26 record and faces a demanding stretch of nine games between March 5 and March 19.
With Williams sidelined, backup center Oso Ighodaro is expected to take on a larger role, while rookies Rasheer Fleming and Khaman Maluach could see increased minutes off the bench.
