Free agent guard Tyus Jones plans to sign with the Denver Nuggets, his agent Kevin Bradbury told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Denver had one opening on its standard roster and will use it on the 29-year-old floor general, who was waived by the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. Because he was released before Sunday’s cut-off, Jones remains eligible for the postseason.
The agreement will cover the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign. If finalized Monday, Jones will receive a prorated veteran minimum salary of $877,209, while the Nuggets will take on a cap hit of $554,273.
Selected 24th overall in the 2015 draft, Jones is in his 11th NBA season. Across 738 regular-season games with Minnesota, Memphis, Washington, Phoenix, Orlando, and Dallas, he has averaged 7.3 points, 4.3 assists, and only 0.8 turnovers in 20.7 minutes.
After four years each with the Timberwolves and Grizzlies, the former Duke standout has played for four franchises over the past three seasons. He signed a one-year, $7 million contract with Orlando last offseason but posted just 3.1 points and 2.6 assists per game in a reserve role. Orlando sent him to Charlotte at the trade deadline to shed salary, and the Hornets quickly rerouted him to Dallas.
Jones appeared in eight contests for the Mavericks, averaging 3.9 points and 3.8 assists in 16.6 minutes. Despite Dallas’s earlier interest in retaining him, the veteran opted to join Denver, which captured the 2023 NBA title and reached the Western Conference semifinals in each of the past two seasons.
