The Boston Celtics are concentrating on long-term development while piling up wins, placing special emphasis on integrating trade-deadline acquisition Nikola Vucevic into their revamped offense.
The veteran center posted his best outing since arriving in Boston during Friday’s rout, recording 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting, 11 rebounds and four assists in just 25 minutes.
“I’m still getting used to the new offense and all my teammates and learning their tendencies,” Vucevic said, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. “At times I think I do overthink a little bit, which makes me hesitant and takes away my aggressiveness. I feel like Friday I was able to put a little more together and play off my teammates.”
Vucevic added that the challenge lies in striking the proper mix between instinct and structure. “I just have to find the right balance of being aggressive, use my instincts, but make it fit with what we want to run,” he explained.
While Vucevic adjusts, Boston will remain without Jayson Tatum. Despite recent speculation, the forward will not play Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon.
