The Memphis Grizzlies announced Monday that center Zach Edey will undergo surgery on his left ankle to address persistent discomfort and talar bone stress.
The procedure aims to reinforce the ankle’s medial ligament complex and support bone healing. Edey, 23, previously had surgery on the same ankle in June, and although doctors have deemed his lateral ligaments stable, he continues to experience pain related to progressive laxity in the deltoid ligament.
The 7-foot-4 rookie has logged just 11 appearances this season, averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 25.8 minutes per game. Memphis holds a plus-18.3 net rating per 100 possessions when he is on the floor.
The club said a timeline for Edey’s recovery will be determined after the operation, but a return before season’s end is considered unlikely.
In the same medical update, the Grizzlies disclosed that forward Brandon Clarke will remain out for at least two more weeks as he recovers from a Grade 2 strain in his right calf.
