Bucks’ Cam Thomas Says Former Team Brooklyn Nets ‘Don’t Believe in Anybody’

Milwaukee Bucks guard Cam Thomas, speaking before Friday night’s game against the New York Knicks, said a lack of confidence from the Brooklyn Nets organization prompted his departure last month.
“That’s just who they are. They don’t believe in nobody,” the 24-year-old told Stefan Bondy of the New York Post when asked about his four-plus seasons in Brooklyn.
Thomas was waived shortly after the Feb. 5 trade deadline, a move that became necessary when the Nets could not find a trade partner. Because Thomas had signed a $6 million qualifying offer last summer, he effectively held veto power over any deal. His representatives preferred a waiver so he could choose his next destination, and the guard later accepted a veteran-minimum contract with Milwaukee for the remainder of the season.
Pressed on why he felt the Nets lacked belief in their players, Thomas declined to elaborate. “I never asked. I don’t even care anymore. I’m on a different team,” he said, adding that Brooklyn always seemed to be “chasing something” instead of trusting its roster.
Thomas, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, averaged 4.7 points in limited minutes for Brooklyn before landing with the Bucks.
