Jeremy Lin officially ended his 15-year run in professional basketball, calling the move “the hardest decision I’ve ever made.”
The 36-year-old guard confirmed his retirement on Saturday, Aug. 31, bringing to a close a career that began in 2010 and spanned multiple leagues and continents. Details of his next steps were not disclosed.
Lin rose to global prominence during a breakout stretch in 2012 and went on to play in both the United States and overseas before announcing his decision to step away from the game.
“I’m ready for the next chapter,” he said in the statement. “Basketball will always be part of me, but it’s time to say goodbye to the professional side.”
The announcement ends a journey that lasted exactly a decade and a half from his first professional contract to Saturday’s message.
