Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach has renamed the courtyard where Kobe Bryant routinely waited for his wife and children the Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Court, honoring a significant philanthropic gift from Vanessa Bryant.
The dedication took place on February 24, a date symbolically linked to the Bryant family—No. 2 for Gianna Bryant’s jersey and No. 24 for Kobe Bryant’s. All four Bryant daughters were born at Hoag, a connection Vanessa Bryant highlighted in a written statement.
“Hoag is a special place,” she said. “I have wonderful memories of the care and support I received from the amazing doctors and nurses. I want this gift to help more people experience that level of care when they need it.”
Hoag President and CEO Robert Braithwaite expressed gratitude for the contribution. “This gesture from the Bryant family will have a lasting impact on Hoag, helping us significantly expand care in Newport Beach,” he noted. “What makes this gift so special is the meaningful connection the Bryant family has with Hoag. We’re proud to be part of their healthcare journey.”
Hospital Expansion Under Way
The donation arrives as Hoag pursues major growth across Southern California. The health system recently opened a center in San Clemente and is completing a $1 billion expansion of its Sun Family Campus hospital in Irvine, scheduled to finish later this year.
Legacy Felt Around the NBA
Kobe Bryant’s influence continues throughout the league. During All-Star Weekend, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker reflected on how much he misses the late Lakers star, underscoring Bryant’s enduring presence among current players.
The Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Court now stands as a permanent reminder of the Bryants’ ties to Hoag Hospital and their ongoing commitment to the Southern California community.
