Serbia captain Bogdan Bogdanovic left Friday’s EuroBasket contest against Portugal after suffering an apparent hamstring injury late in the second quarter.
According to EuroHoops reporter Semih Tuna, the veteran guard pulled up on a drive to the rim and immediately reached for the back of his thigh. Commentator Slobodan Sarenac later told the broadcast audience that Bogdanovic remained in the locker room for the rest of the night and will undergo imaging to determine the extent of the damage.
Before departing, Bogdanovic recorded seven points and five rebounds. Serbia held on without him, defeating Portugal 80-69 behind a 23-point, 10-rebound effort from Nikola Jokic and 18 points from Nikola Jovic.
The injury rekindles concerns from early in the 2024-25 NBA season, when Bogdanovic missed time with similar hamstring problems. He finished that campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 11.4 points and 3.2 assists in 25 minutes per game off the bench.
Serbia also lost forward Filip Petrusev, who was ejected four minutes into the game for a violent act during a box-out. FIBA announced a one-game suspension, a $5,000 fine and a three-year probation for Petrusev. Portuguese forward Diogo Brito, the player involved in the incident, told reporters he viewed the contact as “just a basketball play.”
