CHICAGO — The Chicago Bulls will be without guard Jaden Ivey for a minimum of two weeks because of soreness in his left knee, the club announced Saturday ahead of its home matchup with the league-leading Detroit Pistons.
The Bulls also disclosed that center/forward Zach Collins will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right big toe.
Ivey to focus on rebuilding leg strength
The 24-year-old Ivey arrived in Chicago on Feb. 3 as part of a three-team trade completed just before the deadline. Head coach Billy Donovan said medical tests showed the knee needs additional strength, prompting the shutdown.
“If he can get some of the strength back, then he can get back to where he was athletically,” Donovan told reporters.
Ivey averaged 11.5 points and 4.0 assists in 28.9 minutes over four games with Chicago. Before the deal, he posted 8.2 points and 1.6 assists in 16.8 minutes across 33 appearances for Detroit.
The guard is coming off two previous procedures: season-ending surgery for a broken left fibula in January 2025 and an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee last October that sidelined him for Detroit’s first 15 games this season.
Collins’ injury-plagued season ends
Collins, limited to 10 contests this year, averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 18.4 minutes. He missed the opening 21 games with a broken bone in his hand before sustaining the toe injury in late December. Donovan called surgery “always the last resort.”
Chicago entered Saturday’s game rebuilding its rotation while trying to climb the Eastern Conference standings.
