Rookie big man Lawson Lovering and rookie guard Kadary Richmond returned to free agency overnight as their 10-day contracts with the Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards, respectively, reached their end.
Lovering, a 7’0″ center who went undrafted in 2025 after two collegiate seasons each at Colorado and Utah, earned his call-up from the G League’s Memphis Hustle. The 22-year-old did not appear in his first game with the Grizzlies but logged two outings afterward. He posted three points, four rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes during a Feb. 11 loss in Denver, then started at center in Tuesday’s victory over Utah, delivering 11 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block across 32 minutes.
Richmond, a 6’5″ St. John’s product, initially joined Washington on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract last fall before being waived at the close of the preseason. The 24-year-old spent most of the campaign with the Capital City Go-Go before his 10-day deal with the Wizards. In three NBA appearances, Richmond averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals in 22.3 minutes while shooting 62.5 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three and 100 percent from the foul line.
Memphis now holds one open standard roster spot. Washington is also temporarily at 14 standard contracts, but that vacancy is expected to be filled when rookie forward Tristan Vukcevic signs a reported three-year standard deal. The Wizards plan to add Leaky Black on a two-way contract to replace Vukcevic’s current slot.
