Rui Hachimura Says Fans Might Not Fully Value LeBron James Until After Retirement

Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura believes NBA spectators have grown so accustomed to LeBron James’ historic consistency that they may not truly appreciate the 20-time All-Star’s impact until he leaves the game.

Speaking recently with Khobi Price of the California Post, Hachimura said prolonged exposure to James’ excellence has made the extraordinary seem routine. “You get used to watching him,” Hachimura noted, adding that only when James retires “are we going to be able to actually appreciate what he did in this league.”

Hachimura, acquired by the Lakers in 2022, has witnessed multiple milestones from close range, including James’ climb to the top of the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The 25-year-old forward called the experience “crazy,” emphasizing that maintaining such production in a 23rd NBA season is virtually unheard of.

The 40-year-old James remains an All-Star and continues to average numbers on par with his career standards, defying typical late-career decline. Hachimura urged fans to savor the moment, suggesting a similar run of longevity and dominance may not appear “for a very long time, if ever.”

Lakers Open to Another Season With James

While speculation persists that James could suit up elsewhere next year, league sources told Price the Lakers would welcome the four-time champion back if he opts to extend his career in Los Angeles. The decision is expected to rest with James when the offseason begins.
