The Minnesota Timberwolves have placed guard Johnny Juzang on waivers, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. The move was later confirmed on NBA.com.
Juzang, 24, had reached the 50-game limit attached to his two-way contract, meaning Minnesota would have needed to convert him to the 15-man roster to keep him eligible. Instead, the club opted to release him, giving the former UCLA standout a chance to secure a new deal elsewhere before the March 4 deadline for two-way signings.
The guard impressed during the preseason, averaging 13.8 points in 17.6 minutes across five games while shooting 48.3 percent from three-point range. That production did not translate to the regular season; although he was active for 50 games, he appeared in only 21, totaling 88 minutes and logging double-digit playing time just once. He received a DNP-CD in the other 29 contests.
By cutting Juzang, the Timberwolves open one of their three two-way slots. Big man Rocco Zikarsky and forward Enrique Freeman hold the remaining two spots.
