Four 2025 NBA Draft Selections Still Waiting for First Contracts

Spread the love

As of August 28, 2025, only four of the 59 players chosen in June’s 2025 NBA Draft remain without signed deals for the upcoming season. All four were taken in the second round.

Who Is Still Unsigned?

New York Knicks: Mohamed Diawara
Golden State Warriors: Alex Toohey, Will Richard
Memphis Grizzlies: Jahmai Mashack

Golden State’s Pending Decisions

League sources told reporter Jake Fischer that Golden State plans to bring in former Florida wing Will Richard once restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga’s situation is settled. The contract format was not specified, though wording indicates Richard could secure a spot on the 15-man roster. A rookie-minimum agreement would count roughly $1.27 million against the cap, compared with about $2.3 million for a veteran minimum deal.

Fischer did not provide an update on Alex Toohey, drafted four picks ahead of Richard. Carrying two rookie-minimum contracts could help the hard-capped Warriors, leaving open the possibility that Toohey lands either a standard deal or a two-way slot.

Knicks Await Cap Clarity

Mohamed Diawara is in limbo while New York evaluates ways to fill its remaining roster spots under a hard cap. The Knicks may have to sign at least one draft pick to a rookie-minimum contract; Diawara and 2023 second-rounder James Nnaji are the leading options. If Nnaji claims the standard deal or if the club creates room for veteran minimum additions, Diawara is expected to sign a two-way contract. Cholet Basket, the French club where Diawara played last season, announced last month that the 20-year-old forward will head to the NBA rather than return overseas.

Grizzlies Yet to Act on Mashack

Memphis still holds one open two-way slot alongside P.J. Hall and Javon Small, but has not finalized terms with Jahmai Mashack. The former Tennessee guard impressed during five Summer League games, averaging 9.0 points, 4.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks while shooting 41.7 percent from three-point range. Should the Grizzlies opt for a domestic draft-and-stash route, Mashack could join the organization’s G League affiliate, though his performance suggests he merits at least a two-way deal.
