Guard De’Aaron Fox drained a three-pointer as time expired on Sunday night, giving Team Stripes a 42-40 victory over Team Stars and securing a spot in the decisive game of the NBA’s new All-Star format.

The closing shot capped a tightly contested matchup that featured uncommon defensive intensity for an All-Star setting. The target-score system kept the score within one possession for most of the contest, and neither side led by more than a handful of points.

Jaylen Brown paced Team Stripes with 11 points. LeBron James added eight in a brief but efficient appearance, while Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard contributed across multiple categories. Donovan Mitchell came off the bench to sink two shots during a short but active stint.

Team Stars leaned on Anthony Edwards and Cade Cunningham, who scored 11 points apiece. Edwards attacked the rim early, and Cunningham managed the offense late, briefly pushing Stars in front before Fox delivered the final answer.

Through two games, the league’s revamped All-Star setup has already produced the drama and late-game urgency organizers sought.
