Free-agent guard Malik Beasley has agreed to play for the Cangrejeros de Santurce, the club announced on its social media channels.

The move places the 29-year-old sharpshooter in Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional, whose 2026 season is scheduled to tip off next month. Santurce is owned by music star Bad Bunny, giving Beasley a high-profile landing spot while he waits for clarity on his NBA future.

Strong numbers, uncertain status

Beasley is coming off what was statistically his best NBA campaign. In 2024-25 with the Detroit Pistons, he averaged 16.3 points, buried 319 three-pointers, and appeared in all 82 games. He finished second league-wide in total threes made and finished as the runner-up for Sixth Man of the Year while the Pistons improved by 30 victories and snapped a five-season playoff drought.

Despite that production, Beasley’s market stalled amid an ongoing federal and NBA investigation into potential illegal betting activity. He has not been arrested, charged, or disciplined, but the inquiry halted what was believed to be a three-year, $42 million agreement with Detroit last summer.

Staying ready, staying close

Teams in Europe and China had expressed interest, yet Beasley chose Puerto Rico to remain geographically closer to the NBA, keep his game sharp, and showcase himself ahead of 2026 free agency.

His signing bolsters a Santurce roster aiming for contention in a league that routinely attracts former NBA talent. Beasley will report to the club before training camp opens later this month.
