Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves said his top priority remains winning an NBA title with the franchise that shaped his childhood fandom.
In an interview with Franklyn Calle of SLAM Magazine, the 25-year-old guard emphasized that capturing a championship in purple and gold outweighs any personal milestone. “Winning a championship—that’s been the one thing I wanted to do since becoming a Laker,” Reaves told SLAM. He added that individual recognition “comes from team success.”
Before a right calf strain sidelined him for 17 games, Reaves was producing the best numbers of his career. The third-year guard was tracking toward his first All-Star appearance and had entered early conversations for All-NBA and Most Improved Player honors. Despite the layoff, he is still posting career highs in points, rebounds and assists.
Los Angeles has long praised Reaves for both on-court contributions and a team-first mentality. The undrafted Arkansas native has improved every season and is eligible for a lucrative new contract this summer. Team officials view his commitment to winning as integral to the franchise’s championship aspirations.
Reaves returned to action recently and, according to the guard, quickly rediscovered his rhythm. He credited his fast adjustment to diligent rehab work during his six-week absence.
