Arlington, Texas — Detroit Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake in Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers, the guard confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.

The 24-year-old is part of Sportsology Capital Partners, an investment group that recently completed a minority purchase of the reigning World Series champions. Specific financial terms were not disclosed.

Cunningham grew up in Arlington and has long followed the Rangers. Last July he threw out the ceremonial first pitch before a game against the Baltimore Orioles, calling the moment “amazing” because it connected him to the teams he supported as a child.

On the court, the 2021 No. 1 overall pick is averaging 25.3 points, 9.6 assists and 5.6 rebounds this season. He will represent the USA Stars in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game, marking his second career selection.

Cunningham’s growing business portfolio includes a five-year max rookie extension signed in 2024 that could reach $269 million and a six-year endorsement deal with Nike inked in November, which features his own signature shoe.
