Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will not take part in this weekend’s NBA All-Star Game because of a right knee injury, head coach Steve Kerr said Monday.
Curry, 37, has been diagnosed with patellofemoral pain syndrome—often called runner’s knee—and sat out his fourth consecutive game Monday night. Kerr confirmed the two-time MVP will also miss Wednesday’s matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, the club’s final contest before the break.
The Warriors are targeting Feb. 19 against the Boston Celtics—their first game after the All-Star interval—for Curry’s return, according to the team.
Curry first felt discomfort in the knee during an individual workout on Jan. 24. He attempted to play through the pain but exited a Jan. 30 loss to the Detroit Pistons when the symptoms intensified.
“It’s still painful,” Curry previously told ESPN’s Anthony Slater while discussing his rehabilitation. “You have to try to get rid of all the inflammation and pain. If I come back too early, it could flare up.”
This year’s All-Star format features a three-game, round-robin mini-tournament. The NBA has not yet named a replacement for Curry on Team USA Stripes.
Curry is the second selected All-Star sidelined for the event. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander withdrew last week with an abdominal strain and was replaced by Alperen Şengün.
