Hoops Rumors says it strives to document every asset exchanged in NBA trades, no matter how insignificant the piece might appear. Most deals are straightforward, but some require follow-up after the initial agreement to uncover every element involved.
The Warriors and Hawks provided the simplest example Wednesday, completing a swap of Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield for Kristaps Porzingis with no picks, cash or extra considerations attached.
Other transactions proved more complicated. On Thursday, the Cavaliers shipped Lonzo Ball and two second-round selections to the Jazz, yet press releases from both teams omitted any mention of Utah’s return to Cleveland. The missing detail surfaced Friday: the Jazz sent the league-minimum $110,000 in cash to the Cavaliers to balance the trade.
Similarly, the Celtics’ deadline deal that moved Xavier Tillman Sr. and $3.5 million in cash to the Hornets appeared one-sided when first reported. Roughly seven hours after the swap, Charlotte disclosed it had conveyed a top-55-protected 2030 second-round pick—a so-called “fake” pick that is unlikely to change hands unless extraordinary circumstances arise.
While these belated additions did not alter the competitive outlook for any party, they underscore the challenge of tracking every component involved in even the smallest NBA trades and highlight Hoops Rumors’ effort to keep those records complete.
