Interest in free-agent guard Lonzo Ball is heating up as several NBA franchises examine his medical records, league sources told reporters. Golden State and Denver have emerged as the most active suitors while they await the results of those evaluations.

According to Chris Haynes, multiple clubs have formally requested access to the 26-year-old’s health documents. Jake Fischer reported that the Warriors are viewed inside the league as a leading destination, with the defending champion Nuggets also showing “legitimate” interest.

Both teams currently have two open roster spots and are expected to fill them in the coming days.

Contract status

Ball was waived by the Utah Jazz after arriving in a salary-clearing trade from Cleveland. Once he clears waivers, the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft will become an unrestricted free agent.

Health remains the key question

The point guard has undergone multiple surgeries on his left knee, costing him two-and-a-half seasons. In his lone campaign with the Cavaliers he averaged 4.6 points over 35 games and struggled from three-point range, though the limited attempts affected his percentages.

Teams weighing a deal understand both the medical risk and the upside that once made Ball a top prospect. Final decisions are expected after doctors review the latest reports.
