San Francisco, CA — Warriors forward Draymond Green said on his podcast Saturday that general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. recently asked for his thoughts on trade concepts that would have routed Green to the Milwaukee Bucks in a pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
According to Green, Dunleavy explained that matching salaries for Antetokounmpo would likely require including either Green or Jimmy Butler. “If we were to do a deal for Giannis, you or Jimmy would have to be in the trade just to make it work,” Green recalled the executive saying.
The 34-year-old admitted he briefly believed a move might be imminent. After Tuesday’s game, he spoke with reporters at length “just in case it was my last night in a Warriors uniform,” he said. Green added that the hypothetical shift raised immediate questions about his family and long-term future: “If I’m getting traded to Milwaukee, am I staying in Milwaukee? If I’m not, where am I going?”
Injury updates and roster moves
Stephen Curry will sit out his third consecutive game Saturday because of a knee injury. Head coach Steve Kerr told reporters the two-time MVP is doubtful for Monday’s home matchup with Memphis and could be held out until after the All-Star break. Golden State’s final contest before the break is Wednesday against San Antonio.
Kristaps Porzingis, acquired from Atlanta on Thursday, remains in San Francisco to continue rehab on his right Achilles. The 7-foot-3 center, sidelined since Jan. 7, aims to make his Warriors debut when regular-season play resumes following the break, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported. Porzingis said he was surprised by the move but called joining Golden State “a great opportunity to turn a new page,” according to The Athletic’s Nick Friedell.
Al Horford told Friedell that uncertainty leading up to Thursday’s trade deadline created noticeable strain inside the locker room. “Everybody tried to be professional and good, but there’s a human aspect to it,” Horford said. “We were all kind of up in the air, so it was very stressful here the last few days.”
