San Francisco — The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for center Kristaps Porzingis, multiple league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported the move is a straight player-for-player deal with no draft picks changing hands.
Details of the Contracts
Kuminga, 23, is earning $22.5 million this season. His contract includes a $24.3 million team option for 2026-27, an option that will now belong to Atlanta. Hield, 33, is owed $9.7 million next season, but only $3 million is guaranteed until the day after the draft.
Porzingis, 30, is on a $30.7 million expiring agreement, providing Golden State with additional offseason flexibility. The Warriors have viewed the 7-foot-3 big man as a potential stretch-five target for the past two months, according to Charania.
Recent Availability
Kuminga has appeared in 20 games this season after five years of inconsistent playing time with Golden State. Porzingis has been limited to 17 games and is currently sidelined by an illness. The Latvian center owns a career 36.6 percent mark from three-point range and was part of Boston’s championship run two seasons ago.
Potential Cap Implications for Atlanta
Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan noted the Hawks could waive both incoming players and open roughly $25 million in space this summer, or use Kuminga’s non-Bird rights to offer an extension worth up to $116 million over four years.
Effect on Golden State’s Trade Plans
Moving Kuminga likely ends the Warriors’ pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo before the trade deadline. Marc Stein reported the forward had been a centerpiece of Golden State’s offer to Milwaukee. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel added that the proposed package included Kuminga, Draymond Green, rookie Brandin Podziemski and multiple first-round picks, but the Bucks showed no interest, prompting the Warriors to pivot toward Porzingis.
