PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to trade guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick from the Houston Rockets and three future second-round selections, according to sources cited by ESPN on Wednesday.
The second-round compensation includes the most favorable 2027 pick among Oklahoma City, Houston, Indiana and Miami, as well as two 2028 second-rounders from Oklahoma City and Milwaukee, the sources said.
McCain, 21, was chosen 16th overall in the 2024 NBA draft. In 29 games for Philadelphia this season, he averaged 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 38.5% from the field over 16.8 minutes per contest.
The Duke product missed the opening weeks of the current campaign after tearing a ligament in his right thumb during a preseason workout and sat out most of his rookie year following season-ending meniscus surgery in December 2024.
Philadelphia gains draft capital, eases a crowded backcourt and creates financial flexibility that could aid efforts to re-sign guard Quentin Grimes and convert two-way forward Dominick Barlow, according to the report.
The move comes a day after Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sustained an abdominal strain against the Orlando Magic. Oklahoma City plans to reevaluate him after the All-Star break.
