The Detroit Pistons acquired guard Kevin Huerter and forward Dario Saric on Tuesday in a three-team deal with the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves, sources told ESPN.
Chicago receives guards Jaden Ivey and Mike Conley, while Detroit also picks up a protected 2026 first-round pick swap from Minnesota, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The Timberwolves did not bring back a player, but moving the 38-year-old Conley drops them below the first luxury-tax apron and cuts their projected tax bill from $24 million to $3.8 million, ESPN front-office insider Bobby Marks reported. That financial relief arrives two days before Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, as Minnesota continues its pursuit of Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
All four players involved are on expiring contracts.
Huerter is averaging 10.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 41.4% from three-point range this season. The Pistons, who lead the Eastern Conference at 36-12 and sit 5½ games ahead of the field, rank 27th in total three-point attempts and 28th in attempts per game. Huerter joins a perimeter group that already features long-range specialist Duncan Robinson.
Ivey, 23, the No. 5 pick in the 2022 draft, has appeared in 33 games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in October. His averages have dipped to 8.2 points in 16.8 minutes per contest. The former Pistons guard noted on social media that he will need a new jersey number in Chicago, where No. 23 is retired for Hall of Famer Michael Jordan.
Conley has started nine of 44 games for Minnesota this year, recording career-low marks of 4.4 points and 2.9 assists per game.
Saric, acquired by Chicago over the weekend, has played only five games this season. Because his salary was moved into an exception, he was eligible to be rerouted immediately.
