Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James is not anticipated to be traded before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
The 41-year-old holds a full no-trade clause, meaning any potential move would require his approval. Despite a recent ESPN report by Baxter Holmes outlining tension between James and team governor Jeanie Buss—including Buss once considering dealing the league’s all-time leading scorer—no in-season split is expected.
James’ future beyond 2025-26 remains unresolved. His current contract expires after the season, and he has not publicly indicated whether he plans to re-sign in Los Angeles, join another franchise, or retire.
McMenamin noted that the Cavaliers, Knicks, and Warriors are viewed as potential landing spots should the four-time MVP choose to continue playing. All three clubs have been active ahead of the deadline; Cleveland reportedly struck a deal on Tuesday to acquire James Harden.
Through 33.1 minutes per game, James is averaging 21.8 points, 6.6 assists, and 5.8 rebounds.
