INDIANAPOLIS — Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant will not play Monday night against the Indiana Pacers after spraining his left ankle when he landed on a spectator’s foot during a recent game, head coach Ime Udoka said.
Udoka told reporters about 90 minutes before tipoff that Durant “tweaked” the ankle and offered no timetable for the star’s return.
The 37-year-old was chosen Sunday as an All-Star reserve for the 16th time in his career. He logged nearly 38½ minutes in Saturday’s 111-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Rookie guard Reed Sheppard is expected to take Durant’s spot in the starting lineup.
This is the first game Durant will miss this season because of injury; he previously sat out two contests in November for personal reasons. He leads the Rockets with 26.2 points per game.
